The Collective

The Level Ground Artist Collective is a community of highly talented artists and creators in Los Angeles who have a passion for creating immersive art that provokes critical dialogue and empathy. Through the Collective, Level Ground connects and equips people who are often excluded from positions of creative power, opportunity, and influence. We provide our artists opportunities to gain leadership and project management skills, connection with the local artist community, and space to learn new art media from fellow members. Membership in the Collective is open to all—and completely free. Click here to join.

Through Level Ground, I’ve found support and nourishment and conversation and community. Level Ground has helped me level up as an artist and a human. Its value and impact on my work and evolution can’t be overstated.

Artist Residency

Every year a new group of emerging and underrepresented artists receive mentorship, production resources, and training to create a project at the intersections of identity. The residency program culminates in each artist’s first solo gallery exhibition produced by Level Ground.

Program Benefits
In addition to a monetary stipend for their work, resident artists receive:

  • Access to representation, production and distribution resources

  • Creative mentorship

  • Training through Level Ground’s various networks and community resources

Application Information
Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply. Residents are chosen from the pool of applicants based on their initial project concept and develop the project within the program. Successful applicants demonstrate the ability to experiment within their medium of choice or mediums that are new to them and have practices that include a strong collaborative element. Past residency projects have included Rae Threat's The Untitled Body Project and Ruth Torres' Tainted Truth. Applications open each year in December.
