Introducing Coffee Kang

We’re excited for you to get to know Coffee Kang (she/her), one of Level Ground's three resident artists this year!

Coffee Kang is a concept-driven visual and performance artist who uses her work to navigate the moves and shifts of her personal narrative through various media. Emphasizing both the temporality of performance as well as the inherently performative process of making, Coffee’s artistic practices offer a reflection of the state of fluctuation present within our larger social context.

Coffee's residency project, Sometimes Soft, Sometimes Solid, creates an imaginative space consisting of soap sculptures depicting house structural objects. Despite the meditative and calming connotations of the material, its temporal and fragile nature suggests the impermanence of what makes up a “house.” The project seeks to reflect on the vulnerability of the environment that we are inhabiting.

To see more of Coffee's work, follow her on Instagram @coffeekang or check out her website at coffeekang.com. And be sure to check out the video below, which captures Coffee’s featured work, XVII. The Star, from our ARTat6ft pop-up exhibition back in March.

As each of our residents continue developing their solo shows over the course of the year, you can stay up-to-date with their progress by following Level Ground on Facebook and Instagram, and by signing up for our email newsletter.
