OUR COMMUNITY

The Collective is the core Level Ground community and is made up of artists in Los Angeles who share a desire to root our creative lives in care, collaboration, and liberation. The Collective alone has decision-making power over the work, vision, and future of Level Ground.

OUR CURATORIAL RUBRIC

Level Ground has a long history of intentionally supporting artists, organizers, and cultural stewards. The following principles help us identify who we work with and why.
  • Access

    01
We want to work with artists who haven't had access to sustained resources and opportunities to develop and exhibit work.
  • Collaboration

    02
We want to work with artists who are invested in collaboration, and in developing and honing these skills within their communities and the larger Los Angeles arts ecosystem.
  • Experimentation

    03
We want to work with artists who are experimenters as we support them in taking risks, exploring new forms, and uncovering innovative ways to make meaning.
  • Process

    04
We want to work with artists who care about how a project is made and who develop processes that align with their values and are full of intention and care.
  • Social Practice

    05
We want to work with artists who are socially engaged and committed to their communities and are contributing to them artistically, spiritually, and otherwise.
  • Stewardship

    06
We want to work with artists who are exploring connections between their artistic, spiritual, geographical, ecological, and cultural lineages.

OUR STRATEGIC PLAN

Level Ground stands at a crucial juncture amidst rising fascism and pervasive racialized, gendered, and ableist capitalism.

As we strategize, organize, and build community, we recognize the arts and creative practices as vital spaces for imagining and building future worlds.

This strategic plan responds not only to our community’s needs, but also to the evolving dynamics within the world at large.
