Building community in times of crisis
The Level Ground staff team has spent the last few days checking in with each other and our community of artists. It’s been a wild and difficult week, especially for any of us who were already experiencing uncertainty, isolation, or anxiety in our day-to-day lives.
While we don’t know what the coming weeks and months will hold – or when we’ll be able to gather again in person – we are working on a number of projects that remain core to the mission of Level Ground. We’ll continue to pursue creative collaborations, foster critical cultural conversations, and share resources with one another.
Here are some things we’re excited about:
Supporting Artists: We want to connect our audience (that’s YOU!) with opportunities to directly support underrepresented artists in our community. If you want to participate, complete this super short Support An Artist survey.
The Collective: We have launched a new digital community space for our Artist Collective! We were planning to launch this at the end of April, but have moved up the date (for obvious reasons). If you’re an artist in Los Angeles (or if you know one), send us an email and get connected.
Framing Agnes: We can't wait to host an online community screening of our award-winning documentary short, Framing Agnes, which will include a Q&A with the directors and cast. This will happen in the coming weeks over Zoom. Stay tuned for an invitation.
Self-Center Gallery Show: Planning for our second annual Self-Center gallery show is underway! Intended to take place during Mental Health Awareness Month, this year we’re partnering with Art Share Los Angeles to bring the show to life (when it’s safe to do so).
2020 Resident Artists: We are (digitally) onboarding our new resident artists. We’ll send the official announcement email next week and can’t wait for you to meet them!
Now is a great time to pause, reflect, and find new ways of connecting with yourself and others. Reply to this email to let us know how you’re doing or what you need. Follow us on Instagram to stay plugged in. We’ll be doing what we do best and experimenting with some new and fun ideas to engage and create digitally. Please join us!
Stay safe and be well,
