Level Ground Is Hiring!
Yes, you read that right. Level Ground, your favorite organization advancing dialogue on spirituality and sexuality through the arts, is hiring two editors for a new online publication we're launching in 2018. In times of conflict and polarization, we need to be telling more stories around the ways our identities intersect with the culture around us, with how race or gender or sexuality or ability affect the ways we encounter the world–and the the ways the world encounters us–through film, music, television, art, literature and more. We're hoping to do this in our publication launch next year, and we're looking for people who can join our team of thinkers, writers, critics, and artists to push this dialogue in new, diverse, bold directions that we aren't even seeing yet.
Oh, and we'll pay you, which is always a good thing, right??
Read the job description below, and if you think you're a good fit, submit a cover letter and resume to apply@onlevelground.org, as well as a portfolio including 3 samples of published written work (blog, magazine, online outlet, etc).
Job Description
As an online publication editor, you will be joining our team of pop culture fanatics looking for a new type of discussion around spirituality, gender, race, and the movies, music, TV and books we love; a discussion that centers those on the margins and resists easy answers. You will work closely with the editor-in-chief and writers to brainstorm and edit the monthly stories published on our online platform. Articles may vary in format and tone, from commentary and criticism to personal narrative to profiles or interviews with artists and actors.
In addition, editors will write one article a month, organize and contribute to regular features and assist in social media promotion as needed. Editors will also assist in running regular staff meetings.
Top candidates will have a passion for pursuing dialogue, not division; be self-motivated; seek to cultivate reconciliation in their thinking and writing; have a keen eye for detail and a unique perspective on pop culture; and be able to constructively edit and critique others’ work.
This position is remote. This is a 12-month contract position, with the opportunity for an extended contract after 12 months.

- Fact check stories for accuracy.

- Interview subjects and perform research on various topics with a keen eye for detail and the ability to ensure content is accurate and fact-based.
- Plan and deliver a timely, thought-provoking, well-written story of 600 to 1000 words each month.
- Stay current with latest developments in progressive thought, religious news, and popular culture.
- Maintain social media presence to assist in promotion of Disrupt content.
