Khat-e Penhan / Hidden Line

Using powerful surrealist imagery, 2019 Resident Artist Gazelle Samizay depicts the pressures that face Afghan-American individuals caught between two vastly different cultures. Khat-e Penhan / Hidden Line featured a film installation about the socialization of an Afghan American girl as she struggles between the pull of her own self-expression and individuality and the pressures and rewards of group acceptance.

The show opened on October 26, 2019 at ArtShare LA in the Arts District and featured a live dance performance along with the premiere of the film.
