Zero Parecer

Part of our 2020-2021 Residency Program, Zero Parecer by Emmet Prieto Webster uses popular telenovela Rebelde as a lens with which to explore Mexican-American teenhood. The show opened on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Noysky Projects in Hollywood.

Artist Statement: My life as an artist is all about Rock and Roll. I want to make art that communicates or realizes possibilities in real or imaginary Rock cultures. I work in art formats relevant to the history and modern practice of Rock n Roll, making art resembling music video, handmade clothing, posters/flyers, and staged events. “Zero Parecer” is a tribute to RBD and Rebelde, the globally beloved Mexican teen idol band of the early 2000s. Working outward from RBD’s own iconic visual and auditory language, Zero Parecer processes bubblegum culture through soundscape and video collage, creating a frantic, poignant and disorienting multisensory experience. This collection of low tech digital art takes the practice of fan art into an alternate future full of sex, nostalgia, neglect and agression in equal parts. –Emmet Prieto Webster
